Our Students

Students at HRS are children with unrealized academic potential who have been identified with dyslexia or related language difficulties (problems with acquisition of reading and/or written language). Often their learning difficulties have prevented them from experiencing success in traditional scholastic programs, and impacted their self-confidence and sense of self-worth.

HRS students benefit from the school’s specialized instruction that uses a multi-sensory language approach in a positive, supportive atmosphere. This enables students to develop their academic skills and content knowledge. The school also focuses on building self-esteem, increasing motivation, and improving social interaction and life skills. The ultimate goal is to help children acquire the strength, self-knowledge, and skills they will need to function effectively when they transition from Hamlin Robinson School.

Children at HRS are creative and curious learners, who flourish in an environment where their learning needs are supported effectively. In addition to the three or more hours focused on reading, writing and expressive language, students engage in math, science, social studies, technology, library, art, and music. After school they enjoy opportunities to participate in cross-country running, Ultimate Frisbee and a range of clubs, including drawing, martial arts, and drama. While the experience at HRS differs from traditional academic programs, students thrive in much the same way as their peers at “regular” schools.
