Hamlin Robinson School admits students
with unrealized academic potential who have been identified
with dyslexia or related language difficulties (problems with
acquisition of reading and/or written language), whose learning
disability has prevented them from experiencing success in
traditional scholastic programs.
The HRS program offers specialized
instruction using the Slingerland
multi-sensory approach in a positive, supportive atmosphere
that enables students to develop their academic skills. The
school also focuses on building self-esteem, increasing motivation,
and improving social interaction and life skills. The ultimate
goal is to help students acquire the strength, self-knowledge,
and skills they will need to function effectively when they
transition from Hamlin Robinson School.
HRS limits admission to those students
whose needs it can properly meet. Students who benefit from
the HRS program experience difficulty acquiring appropriate
skills in reading, written language, oral language and auditory
processing. Students whose school difficulties stem from a
primary behavior disorder or from a lack of cognitive ability
are not appropriately placed at HRS.
Admission
procedures are designed to gather
sufficient information through interviews, observations, questionnaires,
evaluation data, and recommendations to allow sound judgments
to be made by parents and school administrators as to the
appropriateness of the schools program for the student.
Hamlin Robinson School offers continuing
enrollment to those students who, in the sole judgment of
HRS, demonstrate a commitment to learning and a willingness
to behave in accordance with school policy.
