DEIB Action Plan

The Action Plan provides a framework for Hamlin Robinson School's ongoing DEIB work. It outlines both goals and actionable steps, guiding our community through the work of creating conditions for authentic belonging.

Rooted in education, accountability, and cultural enhancement, this plan operationalizes our Equity Statement across the entire organization. It aligns with the pillars of our Strategic Plan, ensuring that diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are woven into the fabric of our academic programs, community impact, and long-term sustainability. By implementing this plan, we shape a more inclusive and equitable future for Hamlin Robinson School.

Goal 1. Create an inclusive and equitable educational environment. Ensuring all students feel represented, supported, and valued in their learning journey is a core component of our academic program.

It is essential to approach each interaction with empathy and understanding. Recognizing and valuing the unique experiences and challenges of students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences is key to building strong, respectful relationships.

Goal 2. Foster a culture where diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are integral to the staff’s development and interactions.

Ensuring that our diverse experiences and perspectives are recognized and valued will enhance our collective ability to effectively serve our students.

Goal 3. Enhance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging amongst school leadership. Fostering an inclusive environment where diverse identities and perspectives are valued contributes to the excellence of our educational mission.

In creating diverse leadership at Hamlin Robinson School, it is important to focus on inclusivity, representation, equity, and belonging in leadership roles.

Goal 4. Strengthen our school community engagement practices. Actively involving diverse voices ensures that all stakeholders are represented and have equitable opportunities to contribute to the school’s success.

Fostering an inclusive, respectful and collaborative environment is essential for every member of our community to thrive and know they belong.

This video project was developed to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and to guide the Hamlin Robinson School community in reflecting on his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. The intent was to connect Dr. King’s message of justice, equality, and belonging to the school’s mission of supporting students with learning differences. From the beginning, the project was framed as a school-wide reflection designed to be authentic and meaningful, rather than performative.

The planning team drafted a set of guiding questions designed to encourage thoughtful connections between Dr. King’s vision and the experiences of the HRS community. For adults, the focus was on how the school embodies Dr. King’s ideals, supports students in overcoming challenges, and fosters a culture of belonging. For students, the questions invited personal reflection on what stood out to them in the speech, how they experience respect and inclusion at school, and what dreams they hold for the world.

This project represented a collective effort to weave together historical reflection with the present-day mission of Hamlin Robinson School.
