The Slingerland® Approach

A multisensory, structured literacy program designed to support students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences.

The Slingerland® Approach is aligned with the science of reading and addresses all five pillars of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension - with the added bonus of handwriting instruction. It is accredited by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) and the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC).

Our multisensory program approach includes all five pillars promoted by the science of reading:

  • Phonological Awareness
  • Phonics for Encoding and Decoding
  • Reading Fluency
  • Vocabulary
  • Comprehension

Every teacher at Hamlin Robinson School receives 133 Slingerland training hours before the job even begins — they are equipped to teach students from their first day in the classroom.Lindsey key, director of teaching and learning
