Tutoring

The HRS Learning Center offers one-on-one tutoring in reading, writing, math, or executive functioning to students in grades K-12. Tutoring services at the HRS Learning Center are open to all students and include both online and in-person options. Our professional, highly trained staff provide tutoring services designed to match the unique needs of each student, using proven, effective, multisensory instructional strategies. We specialize in supporting students with language-based learning differences. We focus on the individual learning profile and emotional needs of each student to implement strategies and skills to build success in any educational setting.

Tutoring Services

The HRS Learning Center provides tutoring services for both Hamlin Robinson School enrolled students and students engaged in other educational settings. The Learning Center specializes in offering skills-based tutoring to students with dyslexia or other language-based learning differences. Learning Center tutoring is available to students from kindergarten through 12^th grade. Adult tutoring is also offered on a case-by-case basis.

Tutoring Practices

To best meet the specific academic needs of each student, the HRS Learning Center will identify a tutor-to-student match by evaluating individual learning needs. Family input is used to help select the tutor, and families may be asked to provide past records to aid in assessing student needs and in facilitating an appropriate tutor match.
Practice is an important component in solidifying the skills taught by our instructors. As students develop independence with instructional strategies and techniques, they may be asked to practice specific skills at home for up to 30 minutes per day, 2-4 days per week.
Families are welcome to request clarification of any skills taught, and, when appropriate, will have an opportunity to receive consultation about how to integrate these skills at home.
The Learning Center uses a team approach. Our team of specialists consults on a regular basis to discuss the implementation of strategies for student success. Families may also request collaboration with other providers, e.g., schools or health professionals.

Registration + Evaluation

No formal diagnostic testing is required to initiate registration for tutoring services at the HRS Learning Center. Scheduling and tutor assignment will be determined by the HRS Learning Center staff based on the evaluation of information provided by the guardian(s) and/or school.
Standardized, formal assessment is not a component of the tutoring services. Families will be provided regular tutoring summary reports throughout a student’s participation in the tutoring program. In addition, parents/guardians may request tutoring updates at any time, as well as an opportunity to discuss their student’s learning needs and progress with the Learning Center Director.
In order to provide optimal services, when appropriate, the HRS Learning Center staff may request a formal diagnostic evaluation. The HRS Learning Center can assist families in the selection of a formal diagnostic service, upon request.

Costs and Scheduling

The cost of tutoring at the HRS Learning Center is $88.00 per session. Each session consists of fifty (50) minutes of academic instruction and up to five minutes of reporting and consultation with parent/guardian, as well as all planning and preparation necessary to conduct the session.
A regular schedule for tutoring sessions will be established between the family and the HRS Learning Center prior to the initiation of services.
Sessions must be prepaid monthly.
Unless otherwise arranged with Learning Center staff, the HRS Learning Center requires an eight-session initial commitment for all newly registered students.
Late arrivals to tutoring sessions cannot result in extended time beyond the scheduled session time.

Cancellations and Rescheduling

Cancellations due to illness or other complications are allowed at the rate of one per services agreement, with rescheduling of the cancelled session to a mutually agreeable date and time.
No refunds or rescheduling will be accommodated for additional missed or cancelled appointments or for sessions missed without notification.
Requests for changes to a student’s arranged tutoring schedule must be made in writing to the Learning Center Director at least one month in advance of the proposed change.
Families may opt to terminate services upon the completion of any tutoring services agreement.
