Our Head of School, Stacy Turner, reflects on why our upcoming Dyslexia Dash is so much more than just a "fun run".

Spotlight on the Dyslexia Dash at Hamlin Robinson School

At Hamlin Robinson School (HRS), community is at the heart of everything we do. The annual Dyslexia Dash brings that spirit to life, offering a joyful way for families, students, faculty, and staff to come together in support of dyslexia awareness. Each October at Seward Park, the 2.4-mile walk/run highlights the strengths and resilience of individuals with dyslexia, while celebrating the collective support that makes HRS such a vibrant and inclusive community.

The Dyslexia Dash is more than a fun run. It is a visible reminder of the Hamlin Robinson mission in action — igniting the academic and creative potential of students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. Raising awareness helps dispel myths. The event creates opportunities for students to be seen not through the lens of challenges, but through their creativity, perseverance, and unique gifts. Families and friends join together, affirming that no student walks their journey alone.

This year’s Dyslexia Dash will take place on Saturday, October 25, 2025, with staggered starts beginning at 9:15 a.m. Registration is free, and all members of the HRS community are encouraged to participate. While the event is open to everyone, it also provides an opportunity for the community to show its support for Hamlin Robinson School — whether by joining the run, sponsoring a runner, or simply being present to cheer on students and families. Every act of participation strengthens the bonds that hold our community together.

Dyslexia affects up to 20% of the population. While it impacts reading and spelling, it does not limit intelligence or potential. Many individuals with dyslexia excel in problem-solving, creativity, and big-picture thinking. At HRS, students thrive because they are supported with structured, multisensory instruction and embraced by a community that recognizes their strengths.

The Dyslexia Dash reflects that same commitment to support. It builds confidence, nurtures belonging, and reminds students that their school community stands with them. Each step taken is not only an act of awareness but also a pledge of encouragement from the HRS family.

As runners and walkers stream through Seward Park this fall, they carry forward a message of unity: together, we are building a future where every child with dyslexia is understood, empowered, and celebrated. The Dash isn’t just a race. It’s a community movement — one that strengthens Hamlin Robinson School and the students it serves.
