As Head of Hamlin Robinson School, I get a front-row seat to a lot of remarkable experiences. I witness the day-to-day miracles that happen in our classroom. I have the privilege of hearing stories from parents about the positive and transformative effects that our educational program has on their students. I see our school grow as teachers and staff reach for the highest bars in their professional capacities.
One special experience that happened recently was that I welcomed two former Heads, Bev Wolf and Bonnie Meyer (now serving as our Slingerland Specialist!), and a dedicated former HRS teacher, Jan Gill, to our campus. We visited classrooms, shared stories, and reflected on the journey of our school. And we took photos! What a joy it was to hear from so many former students, parents, and teachers via social media about the lasting impact these educators have had on them – and their pride in seeing how far the school has come.
As Head of Hamlin Robinson School, I also get a front-row seat to any daily or long-term challenges faced by our community. To meet these challenges, our team builds goals and pathways toward growth and continuous evolution. For example, working towards our DEIB goals enriches our students’ daily experience. Creating an Instructional Support Team empowers our teachers to support every learner. Growing our Middle School clubs and affinity groups helps build community and a sense of belonging.
This year, one key area of focus is the Math program. We want to ensure that HRS has a structured, sequential Math program that is as strong and effective as our Language program. To achieve this goal, Dr. Emily Starrett was hired as our Math Program Manager. Dr. Starrett has a Ph.D in Math Education, an M.Ed in Instructional Design and Technology, and several years of experience as a K-12 classroom teacher — teaching Special Education (grades 4-12) and Mathematics (grades 6-12).
I am incredibly excited about the work that Dr. Starrett is already doing across our school – and I’m happy to have a front-row seat to witness even more transformative, innovative work at HRS.
