Autumn typically calls to mind apple picking, haunted houses, and football games – but October’s Fall STEM Fest gave HRS Lower School families a new take on fall fun! On a crisp autumn evening, students and families moved from station to station, eager to explore the activities designed by Lower School science teacher Hannah Blackburn.
At Pumpkin Chuckin’, guests discovered elastic potential energy by launching candy pumpkins at targets. Jack-O-Lantern Light Up showcased principles of electrical conductivity. At Apple Towers, aspiring engineers attempted to build the tallest tower that could support the weight of an apple. Many other activities, along with a very popular candy-counting contest, added to the excitement. Turns out fall fun and scientific exploration make the perfect pair!
