Head's Notes: Announcing the Site for Our New Middle School

HRS will be opening a new Middle School in time for the 2022-23 school year!

It is with great excitement for the future of Hamlin Robinson School that we announce that we have finalized the purchase of the Rainier Avenue Oberto site across the street from our school.

HRS moved into our current building in 2015, just three years after the property was purchased from the Oberto family. In the years that followed, we have experienced exponential growth and have reached capacity years ahead of schedule. Still, the demand for Hamlin Robinson School continues to grow.

For this reason, we plan to build a new Middle School on the Oberto site with space for a total of 225 students in grades 6 – 8, expanding our enrollment from 125 in our current building. This will also give our Lower School room to expand from 160 students to 270 in the existing building, allowing HRS to serve 210 more students in the regular school year.

Expanding access for our program is critical for our region. In addition to growing our regular enrollment, we have expanded space for the HRS Learning Center to offer more tutoring sessions and professional development opportunities to students and teachers at schools around the region. The new school building is slated to open in the 2022-23 school year.

We are excited to move forward with this project and we are so appreciative to the Oberto family for working with us in the sale of their historic property. As a school, we are looking forward to being able to be able to honor this history of our neighborhood.

“The sale of this property to Hamlin Robinson School builds on the value my parents, Art and Dorothy Oberto, placed on education. They believed that all kids can have success in the future with good, quality early learning.”

-Steve Oberto

This is a tremendously exciting time to be a part of the Hamlin Robinson School community. Thank you for being a part of it as we make this critical investment in our school – and an investment in the kids whose love of learning is ignited in these halls every day.
