HRS will host a virtual information session on Thursday, June 20, at 5:00pm, to cover program structure and logistics for both Slingerland classes and afternoon camps. We expect this information session will last approximately 30 minutes. For families interested in carpooling, we will host breakout groups by neighborhood after the main information session so parents/guardians can connect.  

HRS will send the Zoom meeting link and passcode via email to families registered for HRS Summer Academy - sometime in early June. A post-event recording will be made available.

When students arrive on the first day, HRS staff (or you) will walk them to the lower school gym for a brief assembly. Teachers will introduce themselves, greet and gather students, then walk the students (only) to their classroom.  

At that time, family members are invited to the Lower School Commons for the Slingerland Information Session. 

Please follow drop-off procedures if you are not parking or staying for the Slingerland Information Session. If you are accompanying your student into the building and/or staying for the Slingerland Information Session, please park in an area NOT designated on the map as a drop-off route. 

Family members are invited to attend an in-person Slingerland Information Session on Monday, July 8, immediately after student drop-off. The session will take place in the HRS Lower School Commons from 9:15-10:15am.  

This session is optional. If you are attending, please do not park in designated drop-off zones. Neighborhood street parking is available. No registration is necessary. This event will not be recorded.

What might a general education classroom feel like for a student with dyslexia? Join us to find out at our Walk in the Shoes workshop on July 18, at 6:30pm-8:00pm.  

During this interactive workshop, participants will engage in hands-on activities that simulate the challenges and frustrations that students with learning differences might experience in a traditional school setting. Whether you are dyslexic yourself or supporting a student with a learning difference, this event will forever change the way you understand your student's school experience. 

• Separate registration is required for each attendee, and space is limited. 
• This event is recommended for family members age 12+.
• We do not recommend this event for students who are currently enrolled in HRS Summer Academy.
• Because this event is limited to families of HRS Summer Academy students, you will be asked to provide the name of your student's classroom teacher or camp instructor in order to register.

On Wednesday, July 31, parents/guardians (adults only, please) are invited to attend a Slingerland class observation, followed by a Q&A session with HRS administration. Both events are optional.   

Please follow normal drop-off procedures if you are not staying for the Slingerland observation session.  

If you are attending this session, please park in an area NOT designated on the map as a drop-off route. (Please refer to the Drop-Off Map on this webpage.) You can then accompany your student to the classroom at 9:00am to observe a portion of the Slingerland lesson, which will last until approximately 10:20am.  

At that time, parents/guardians will be dismissed to the Lower School Commons for a presentation and Q&A session with HRS administration. All events will conclude in time for parents/guardians to return to cars for regular noon pick-up of students not staying for afternoon camp. 

Teacher observation forms for each student will be given to parents/guardians at the conclusion of the classroom observation. Forms will be mailed to anyone not attending the morning events.

Slingerland Classes
Beginning at 8:45am, HRS staff will be on the sidewalk on the west side of the school (Valentine Pl.) to welcome arriving Slingerland Class students. See July 8 list on the Special Events section above for special First Day arrival information. 

Afternoon Camps
Beginning at 12:50pm, HRS staff will be on the sidewalk on the west side of the school (Valentine Pl.) to welcome arriving afternoon camp students.   

• Please approach the drop-off/pick-up line by heading north on Valentine Pl. S. Students will be dismissed from this location.  

• Do not turn left onto Valentine Pl. from Massachusetts St.  

• Move as far forward in the line as possible before stopping to unload your car.  

• For safety, students should exit the vehicle only on the passenger/sidewalk side.  

• Please stay in your vehicle during drop-off.  

• Students will proceed down the playground stairwell. 

• Do not use neighbor driveways to turn around or do U-turns at any time. 

You may escort a reluctant student to the front office via the school’s main entrance, where staff will assist.  Street parking in the neighborhood is available. 

For pick-up, please follow the procedures outlined on this map and listed below.

Slingerland Classes
Beginning at noon, HRS staff will be on the sidewalk on the west side of the school (Valentine Pl.) to dismiss Slingerland Class students who are not attending Afternoon Camp. All students should be picked up no later than 12:15pm. Late fees will be assessed, per the student enrollment agreement. 

Afternoon Camps
Beginning at 4:00pm, HRS staff will be on the sidewalk on the west side of the school (Valentine Pl.) to dismiss Afternoon Camp students. All students should be picked up no later than 4:15pm. Late fees will be assessed. Please see the student enrollment agreement for late fee information.

Students registered for Before Care can be dropped off beginning at 7:30am and should enter the school’s front entrance on 20th Ave S. Parents are permitted to park in loading zones at this time. 

If your student will be absent from the program on a particular day, arriving late, or leaving early, please notify the HRS Front Desk at frontoffice@hamlinrobinson.org. If possible, also notify your student's Slingerland teacher and/or afternoon camp instructor.

Students registered for After Care must be picked up no later than 5:30pm. Parents are permitted to park in loading zones at this time and should enter the school’s front entrance on 20th Ave S. to sign out their student. Late fees will be assessed, per the student enrollment agreement. 

• Students do not need to bring any classroom supplies. All classroom supplies will be provided. 

• For students attending Slingerland class or afternoon camp, please pack healthy snacks and a water bottle each day.   

• For students attending a full day of class and camp, please pack a healthy lunch. No energy drinks, please! 

• Students will have outdoor recess (approximately 20 minutes) during morning classes. Many students attending afternoon camps will also spend time outdoors. Please consider applying sunscreen at home or sending it with the student. Students will be responsible for applying their own sunscreen. 

• Students should wear shoes that fit securely on their feet, no flip-flops please!   

Students who are attending Slingerland morning class and also afternoon camp will be directed to the lunch commons for a supervised lunch. Please pack a healthy lunch for your student, along with a water bottle or beverage container. (No energy drinks, please.) After lunch, students will have a supervised recess before they are directed to afternoon camp. 

Thank you for providing specific health, allergies, and medication information to Hamlin Robinson School during your HRS Summer Academy registration process.  

In the event there is a valid reason that makes the administration of oral medication (or an emergency EpiPen) to the student advisable during Summer Academy hours, HRS requires families complete a medication authorization form for prescription and/or over-the-counter medications. All medications must be in the original pharmacy or manufacturer's container. The label must include the student's name, name of medication, dosage and mode of administration, expiration date and name of physician.  

Please send completed form to frontoffice@hamlinrobinson.org. These forms were due June 14. All medication will be kept in a secure place in the school’s front office. All medications shall be given to school personnel and not kept in the possession of the student. The administration of any dose of medication will be recorded on a log sheet.
